Eligibility & membership
Who can apply for Student Membership?
Applicants should be currently enrolled in a recognised programme in psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, mental health, behavioural science or a relevant related discipline. Evidence of current study may be requested. Members must agree to the Society’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Who can apply for Professional Membership?
Professional Membership is for applicants who have completed a recognised qualification in psychology or another relevant field accepted by the Society. The team may request your qualification, institution, completion year, relevant experience and supporting evidence. Applications are assessed individually.
How does the application form select my membership type?
Choose your current study or professional status from the five options. Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral students are shown Student Membership. Graduates and qualified professionals are shown Professional Membership. The category is displayed automatically and is subject to the Society’s eligibility review. Use the message field to explain a mixed study and professional background.
Can I join if I study or work outside the UK?
Applicants outside the UK can submit an enquiry for consideration against the relevant membership requirements. Include your institution and country in the message if helpful. Membership does not change the professional registration or practice requirements that apply in your country.
Can I apply for Honorary Membership?
Honorary Membership is by invitation only. It recognises distinguished contributions to psychology, mental wellbeing, education, research, professional practice or community wellbeing. It is not available through the public application form.
What if I am unsure whether my qualification is relevant?
Send the team a membership enquiry with the name of your programme or qualification and your institution. Explain your current position in the message field. The Society can consider your circumstances before asking for any further evidence.
